Buddy Recon is a new feature added in the Sunbreak expansion of Monster Hunter Rise. You can deploy Palicos and Palamutes into the field at specific locations on the map, and they'll act as an extra fast travel point. This can be useful, especially on larger maps like the Citadel.

Using Buddy Recon is easy. However, there are certain fast travel points that have to be unlocked before you can deploy Buddies to them. Here's how to get the most out of the new feature and find the hidden Buddy Recon points.

How To Use Buddy Recon

Talk to Nagi at the Buddy Piazza in Elgado. The Buddy Recon menu is under Meowcenaries. Each locale has two points you can assign Buddy Recon to. Most of these points are available from the start, but there are six that have to be unlocked. You can select one unlocked Buddy Recon point at a time. Choose a point and a Buddy to place there.

Unlike the Argosy or Meowcenaries, the level of your Buddy doesn't affect how Buddy Recon works. It is okay to use low-level Buddies. A Buddy assigned to Buddy Recon can't do other activities or come along for quests. You can only assign Buddies in the hub world, not during hunts.

Once you set up your Buddy Recon, you can fast travel to the point by using the Detailed Map - the same way you fast travel to subcamps. You can only use the Buddy Recon point once per hunt, and there is a toll of 100 Kamura Points.

Buddy Recon Points

Most Buddy Recon points don't have to be unlocked and are available as soon as you can use the feature at Buddy Piazza. However, there are six points that the player has to find themselves on the map before deploying a Buddy. When you approach an unlockable Buddy Recon point, you'll see a callout from Felyne Chief Kogarashi. The points appear as swirling gusts of dandelion seeds. Interact with them to place a sign and unlock the point.

  • Frost Islands Point 2: Climb the spire at the northernmost part of Area 9 by wall-running up its north-facing side. From here, you can Wiredash from one platform to another. The Buddy Recon point is inside a cave on the second platform.
  • Lava Caverns Point 2: In Area 13, face westwards towards Area 12 and climb up the cliffs. The Buddy Recon point is next to a pool of lava that's falling from above.
  • Jungle Point 1: Climb the stone ledges by the cave entrance in Area 5. Keep heading upward, running up two walls, until you see a hollow tree. The Buddy Recon point is beside the tree.
  • Jungle Point 2: Atop the rock ridge separating Areas 9 and 2.
  • Citadel Point 1: Wall run to get on top of the cave entrance in Area 2. The Buddy Recon point is on top of this plateau, by the ruins of a collapsed house.
  • Citadel Point 2: Atop the highest icy peak east of Area 8. Requires a lot of wall running and maybe a third Wirebug.
